Every webmaster owner knows that maintaining a site at high ranks is a never-ending headache. Search engines often improve their algorithms for reaching their main goal – show the most relevant results to any search query.
There is a great amount of factors, which affect the position of a website in search results. In general, they are: website’s content, authority, performance and user experience. These are the basic principles every SEO specialist in any IT outsourcing company knows.
While a hard thing is to get high-quality inbound links from authoritative sites, a much easier thing is to make a simple on-site optimization. It will make your site more attractive for search engines. Let’s take a look at several ways to optimize your site so that Google would like it.
- Keep Your Keywords List Up to Date
You know that the correct use of keywords is very important, so you should make a keyword research when planning your content. Google Keyword Planner will help you find a right strategy. Also, it’s recommended to check from time to time whether your search keywords are still fresh and live. Pay attention that not only the popular words are necessary to use, but those which are rare, as well.
- Optimize the Site Content
All your SEO efforts should be content-oriented. If you wish your site to be considered as a high-quality one, give special priority to texts. Ideally, you need to have at least a small text on every page. They should be unique, informative and have value for visitors.
Apart from that, you keywords list should be relevant to the content, and their amount should be proportional to the entire text. For content optimization it is rational to use keywords in heading tags.
- Keep Page Titles adequate to Your SEO Strategy
Page titles play an important role for search engines. The title of each page should describe its content, and it’s preferable to include the keyword you are targeting. Moreover, it’s better to put the keyword early in the title. The length of page title should not exceed 70 characters in order not to be cropped when displayed in search results. Try to make titles so that users would wish to click them.
- Optimize URLs
Ideally, you page URLs should be equal to page titles. This can benefit you in search results. Having keywords in URL will also help you. But don’t hurry to change URLs that rank well already, it’s better to leave them like that. Also, unless you are developing a new site, if your old pages are already indexed by search engines, changing URLs to those pages will result in 404 errors, when users click them in search results. You’ll have to create a 301 redirect for each of them.
- Create Meta Descriptions for at Least the Most Important Pages
Meta tags should not be more than 156 characters and, as well as, the page title, describe the page content. Mind, that meta descriptions should be unique for each page.
