Today security is increasingly in the mind of multitude Mac users. The latest security patches of Apple for Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Mac OS X Leopard patch a multiplicity of holes which may be exploited by unprincipled folks. Next to the Thursday Mac OS X 10.6.8 update, Apple provided Security Update 2011-004 as well, that renders some of the similar patches to Leopard, along with fixing some specific security bugs of Leopard.

Among this two updates, Apple patched 28 bugs within ranging of systems from AirPort to MobileMe, then QuickTime and subversion. While majority of the bugs that are fixed in Leopard have been transferred to previous updates of Snow Leopard, both versions of the OS have a handful affect, Knowledge Base document of Apple also addresses some specific bugs of Snow Leopard patched in 10.6.8.

Certainly, the one thing Leopard doesn’t derive benefit from is malware detection system of Snow Leopard that was updated in version 10.6.8 to catch more variants of the Mac Defender Trojan horse. Users of Leopard will have to rely instead on a combination of a common sense and 3d party antivirus software to protect themselves from the malware.

The Security Update 2011-004 is recommended for all consumers of Mac OS X Leopard and needs the version Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 or later. For consumers of the client version of the OS, there is available a 256.4 MB through Software Update or support download site of Apple, users of Leopard Server may download a 499.8 MB update by means of Apple’s site or Software Update.
