Smartphones Sales almost fully consist of Android and iPhone

IDC said, that iPhone and Android devices together took 82 % of all smartphones, that were given to retailers in the first quarter of 2012.

It is said in IDC statement, that the combined sales of Apple iOS – and Android – based devices around the world are just incredibly huge comparing to the sales of smartphones with other operating systems, involving Research in Motion’s BlackBerry, a traditional leader now in “decreasing of sales”.

On May 16, it was announced that iPhone and Android smartphones had nearly 79 percent of all smartphones sales in the first quarter, just a bit smaller number” – said Gartner.

Smartphones, which are owned by retailers now, are expected to be sold anyway, the popular iPhone and Android models will be sold for sure.

iOS-based iPhones have 23 percent of market while Android phones from different manufacturers have 152.3 million devices or 59 percent of first quarter shipments, – was announced by IDC.

Smartphone OS losers like Windows Phone and BlackBerry have to get more loyalty from application developers to increase market share. Kevin Restivo, analyst from IDC, said in a statement: “A leading indicator of hardware sales success is a developer intentions of enthusiasm for a particular operating system.”

”Samsung gained 45.4 % of all smartphones, which are based on Android, shipments in the first quarter, which occupied the leading position” said IDC.

Windows Mobile OS’s and Windows Phone accounted a 2.2 % share of first quarter shipments, up to 27 percent from the first quarter of 2011, IDC said.

BlackBerry’s had a 30 % decrease from the first quarter of 2011 and its share of shipments was just 6.4 %.

The Symbian OS accounted a 6.8 % of the shipments share in the first quarter, down 60 % from the first quarter of 2011, due to the movement of Nokia to Windows Phone.
