Research in Motion (RIM) announces it 2 years old BlackBerry App World has already crossed the 1 billion download mark and now a beta version of the app store upgrade is approaching.
This news was spread nearly a week after Apple exalted that its 3 year old App Store for iPads and iPhones devices had passed the mark of 15 billion app download. Apple crossed the 1.5 billion app download boundary about a year after the App Store started, but certainly that was pre-iPad. Recently, Google said that its Android Market crossed the 4.5 billion app download line. The question is how Research In Motion is getting left behind.
Research In Motion, in a blog post, says that its BlackBerry App World is today seeing 3 million app downloads per day. The downloads spring from both the new PlayBook tablet and BlackBerry phones.
Later this month the beta of BlackBerry App World 3.0 will start and its screenshots have started to bring out across the BlackBerry blogosphere. Version 220.127.116.11, a minor update, has already begin to roll out.
BlackBerry App World’s Word is hitting the 1 billion app download milestone presents a needed dose of precious news for Research In Motion, that has had a difficult year that has involved sliding earnings as well as delays and compound reviews for its PlayBook tablet.
