iPhone has done well for Sprint

iPhone SprintSprint Nextel said both existing and new customers are purchasing its iPhone and they expect to get at least 1 million iPhones saled in the fourth-quarter earnings report.

Joseph Euteneuer, Sprint CFO said they thought that it would do very, very well for them, during a session at a Bank of America Merrill Lynch investor conference.

He put the stress on the new Sprint subscribers that the company is gaining while offering iPhone. They also get gross adds and suppose that the subscribers are comming because it`s fairly simplistic.

October, 14 — iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S were launched by Sprint, joining its larger rivals Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) and  AT&T Mobility (NYSE:T) in offering this devices. Now Sprint is the only U.S. carrier that is offering unrestricted data on iPhone. Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) gadget was positioned by the carrier as a key to its turnaround, especially to attract and maintain postpaid customers. $15.5 billion Sprint has committed to paying Apple for the iPhone more than four years.

That is interesting that Mr. Euteneuer addressed concerns, network performance of Sprint has suffered and the cause is a heavy data traffic triggered by its new iPhone users.

“Sprint’s network engineers were working to ensure users’ data demands could conform the carrier’s network. We are sure that the performance going on out there with the iPhone and meets user`s expectations.”

Nevertheless, Euteneuer said: “In order to be able to provide appropriate iPhone data speeds, patches were put in the phones.” CNET reported earlier that Sprint were deploying “network enhancements” during the past few weeks. Sprint intended to improve customer experience and iPhone data speeds.” Anyway, it wasn`t mentioned about a patch inside the Sprint iPhone itself.

Pressed for detailes on a probable “patch” in the Sprint iPhone, it was acknowledged by a Sprint representative, the carrier improved its network but didn`t mentioned about a patch, probably indicating Euteneuer misspoke.
